While the dating scene may have changed, there are still plenty of ways to organically meet and get to know someone.

Online Dating After 60

Though you likely have familiarities with online resources, like shopping, social media, or video streaming, online dating may be new to you. Online dating can help you find and connect with local people with similar interests and goals in mind. While there is a stigma surrounding online dating, roughly 40% of Americans use an online dating site or app.

And online dating services are not only for younger generations! Reports show an increase in user activity for older adults and indicate the gap may be closing.

These reports also show confidence from the users of the services. During a national survey by Pew Research Center:

  • 80% of those utilizing an online dating platform stated that it is a great way to meet people
  • 62% agreed that online dating provides a better match
  • 61% agree that online dating is easier and more effective than other ways of meeting people

One of the benefits of online dating is that you have options for selecting a platform that focuses on what matters to you. Whether you’re looking for someone in your local community, someone who has the same beliefs, or someone that is in a similar situation, there are a variety of websites and apps that allow you to connect with the people you are looking for.

While online dating after 60 may seem even more intimidating than meeting face-to-face, it can be a great arena to start conversations and get back into the groove of dating.

How Do I Meet People Organically?

While online dating is growing at a rapid pace, some may want to seek a more organic or traditional way of meeting and dating.

The biggest challenge for some while dating after 60 is finding a place to connect and socialize. Similar to online dating, the first thing you should consider is what you are looking for in a partner. If you want to meet someone who has similar interests or hobbies, you could sign up for a class or event focused on a hobby to connect with others who are also interested.

A local senior or community center may also host events and activities that can help you find your next connection. If you have been considering moving to a retirement community, it can also prove to be a great source. These communities connect older adults with similar backgrounds and interests.

HarborChase Senior Living, with retirement communities throughout the United States, hosts frequent events that promote social engagement and connectivity among our residents.
